Silkeborg IF was founded in 1917, reached the top level of Danish football in 1987 and went on to become one of the most successful clubs in Denmark. They won the national championship in 1994, the cup in 2001 and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1996.

SIF’s strategy is to bring players from the region to the first team and, where possible, to sell them abroad. Most recent examples of this are Magnus Mattsson, who switched to NEC Nijmegen in the summer of 2021, and Rasmus Carstensen, who moved to KRC Genk last summer. Both rose from U13 to the first team.

The style of playing is crucial in the club’s football development programme. They want to dominate in ball possession and play an attractive and dynamic style of football. This strategy is the basis of all football activities within the academy. Being ambitious on the ball and winning games in their way.

SIF participates with a mix of players born in 2005, 2006 and perhaps in 2007. Seven of them, Aske Andresen, Malthe Wallin, Julius Nielsen, Sebastian Biller Mikkelsen, Lasse Abildgaard, Simon Stüker and William Pedersen, have already played youth international matches for Denmark.

From 1995 to 2006, Silkeborg participated in the KST seven times and won the tournament in 1995. The Danes are coming to Ruurlo for the eighth time this year.
